We were in Linjiang having just rode a boat along the border. A friend’s uncle had offered to take us out to dinner since he lives in the area. Our plan was to join him for dinner and then go on to Ji’an.
China
A country I lived in for over ten years.
Linjiang: A Boat Ride Along the Border
The next stop on our tour along the Sino-Korean border was Linjiang. This is another city that lights up like Vegas at night. Only the Chinese built this one across from a small North Korean farming community.
Huanren: A night in a castle
Road Trip
After finishing our DPRK tour, we decided to go on a road trip along the border. We decided to go to Huanren, Linjiang, Ji’an and then come back to Dandong for a beer festival.
We had breakfast in Dandong and sorted ourselves out with a driver.
Dandong and the Chinese People’s War Museum
The train from Pyongyang took us back to Dandong. The first order of business was to find a hotel.
Settling In
We ended up staying at the last true Communist hotel in China. The staff ran it as a commune, with no one staff member being the manager.
Lhasa to Beijing by Train
The last part of our tour was to get a train from Lhasa to Beijing. It takes 3 days to get to Beijing which means spending 2 nights on a train.
Day One: Leaving Lhasa
After buying some last minute presents we met up with our tour back at the hotel.
Misadventures in Tibet
There were a few other misadventures in Lhasa that probably don’t deserve an entire blog post dedicated to them. So here are three mildly amusing stories of things that happened to us during the last couple of days in Tibet.
Free Tibet.
Old Town Clubbing
After getting back from Lake Namtso we had one last night to spend in Lhasa. We went to the same rooftop bar overlooking the Jokhang Temple when we first arrived in Lhasa.
When Yi went to the Potala Palace she ended up on a different tour.

Bus Ride
Next on our tour of Tibet we were to take a bus to Lake Namtso – one of the most beautiful lakes in Tibet. On our way we got to take a few stops in the Tibetan countryside.
New Town Clubbing
It was our English tour guide’s birthday and he decided he wanted to go out in Lhasa’s New Town to celebrate.
Tea Shop in Lhasa
We still had some free time before meeting back with the tour group for our night out in Lhasa New Town, so we decided to wander Old Town for a while.
