Xi’an has a lot of temples, and we visited several of them. The Guangren Temple is the only Tibetan Lama temple in the city. Its draw is that it holds eight treasures, six inscription boards, and six “wonder trees”, among other things.
Travel
Stories of my travels around the world.
Shadows of Gao’s Grand Courtyard
We wanted to see a shadow puppet show when were in Xi’an, and it turns out that you can if you go to one of the best preserved homes in the city.
Shaanxi Archeology Museum
It’s hard to visit a museum in Xi’an. You have to book way in advance, and touts are always getting the tickets before anyone else.
Drinking Culture in Xi’an
Li Bai would often show up drunk to the Emperor’s court in Chang’An (modern day Xi’an), but would still be able to perform his duties. He so impressed the Tang Dynasty’s Emperor that he is now a symbol of the city of Xi’an.
I Finally Saw the Terracotta Army
If you’re a tourist in Xi’an, there’s one thing you absolutely have to do. Not necessarily because it’s good fun, but because it’s there.
Li Chunfeng Taoist Temple
Li Chunfeng (李淳风) was a Chinese astronomer, mathematician, historian and politician who lived during the Tang Dynasty. He is known for creating a new calendar that more accurately predicted the positions of the planets.
Walking the Cliffs of Howth
While waiting for my Chinese visa in Dublin, I decided to do a spot of hiking. I found that Howth would be a nice walk on the outskirts of the city, so I picked a random route and set out on my way.
Dublin: St. Patrick’s Parade
Some pictures from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin. This is my first time doing St. Paddy’s in the country. There was a huge variety of marching bands, public services, athletes, and even Mr. Tayto Man out to represent.
China’s White Paper Protests
After a building in Xinjiang was set on fire during the lockdown, DaBai refused to let fire fighters get close to the building. As a result, the building burned down killing everyone inside. By choosing to enforce quarantine measures over safety, the officials let those people die.
Memories from the Lockdown
In 2022 Shanghai was put into a lockdown that was only supposed to last 5 days. I prepared enough food to last and wasn’t too worried about getting more.
