I’ve kind of had this story knocking around in my head for a while. It’s a kind of child’s diary entry loosely based on personal experience. I want to make it into a comic, but at the moment I don’t think I’m skilled enough to draw it yet.
Writing
Words put onto paper. Or fonts rendered on a page.
XKCD’s Most Depressing Comic
I don’t know why, but a certain comic has been on my mind for some time. Dedicated to Spirit, a NASA rover sent on a 90 day mission to explore Mars. After completing its mission it was repurposed to gather more data.
Dreaming of White Animals
I found this entry in my dream diary so I edited it into a short story. I remember when I woke from this dream I was laughing to tears. It’s probably not as hilarious as I remember it. Even if it’s not that funny, it’s definitely weird.
Give Up Plastic, Save the World
How to Give Up Plastic, a book by Will McCallum, is a guide to the problem of single-use plastic and how to solve it. Our throwaway culture has led to a crisis that is killing birds, destroying sea life, and is even poisoning humans.
Please Don’t Knock on My Door
A knock on the door can often bring good things. A friend coming to visit, that parcel you’ve been waiting for, a letter from a loved one. But there are situations where a simple knock can bring bad things. Sometimes a knock on the door can be utterly terrifying.
Burning Man 2023: Stuck in the Mud
News of people stranded at Burning Man due to the rain caused many to worry about their loved ones who were attending Burning Man in 2023. Media reports, however, were greatly exaggerated. I was on Playa as the storm hit. This is what actually happened at Mudman 2023.
My First Time Into the Cage
I got into fighting when I was younger. Although I didn’t manage to keep it up, I still learned a lot from training MMA. It taught me a lot about myself and others that I don’t think I could have learned from anything else.
Sherlock Holmes: The First Superhero
Last weekend I visited Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival, and I got to see Tim Marriot perform Watson: The Final Problem. A version of the classic story performed entirely in monologue. It was a fantastic show that brought Watson to life.
Our First Dog and Our First Cat
Perhaps one of the worst periods of my life was after I turned 17. I was in Cumbria, studying in sixth form. I was thinking about what to study at to university, about what I would do with my future.
Trigger Warning: A Hand Will Reach Out
Trigger warnings can be a good thing. They can help people avoid things that may trigger a negative reaction. Trigger warnings are pretty common these days, but I worry that this is making people forget what a trigger actually is.
