The Londoners have been defeated, but it is getting colder. More refugees are coming to the city. We need to make sure we can house them. And we will need more coal to heat their homes. And more food. And more of all the things we don’t have.
Our scouts have found the American Dreadnought. It has been stripped down, but there is still enough steel here to last us a lifetime. Our scouts strip down what they can and make their way back to the city.
The first wave of refugees has arrived. As overloaded as our medical facilities are right now, I cannot turn away the wounded. At the very least we can make them comfortable.
Frostbite is becoming a bigger problem. Many of our citizens have already needed amputations to survive it. Our prosthetics are advanced enough to enable them to work, but it is still a hard thing to survive.
We are struggling to maintain our coal supplies. Perhaps we can convert some of our wood to charcoal and fuel the heat generator that way.
A subversive refuses to sign the Pledge of Loyalty. We will make him sign. Not for power, but for the good of the Order. The Order will keep our people alive.
The New Order is now established. Hope is no longer needed when you can trust the Order. Some resisted and unfortunately we had to sacrifice their lives. But the Order lives on and with it, so do our people.
The people have built an execution platform. It should send a message to the people. Hopefully we will never be forced to use it.
Our medics are getting strained and food is running short. We must ensure people are being treated and fed.
More automatons can ease the work required of our citizens. Our engineers are working fast to build more.
There are signs of more survivors to the south. Our scouts are heading out to investigate.
An engineer wishes to try and improve our automatons. I don’t object. Better automatons means better production.
We have improved our charcoal kilns. They should work a lot faster and more efficiently now.
Our people are freezing. There is little I can do right now. Our engineers are working on better solutions to generate heat.
Our coal production cannot keep up with our generator’s needs. It is cold, and it is only getting colder. Our citizens are close to freezing to death.
More refugees have arrived. We take them in, but they come with a warning. A large frost is heading for the city. We are barely surviving the Long Winter now. I don’t know if we can handle things getting colder.
Our scientists tell us they can prepare for the incoming storm. They just need some time to create an observatory.
Our engineers have figured out a way to upgrade our coal mines. I order the workers to make the improvements. We will lose production, but it means more fuel in the long term.
The steam coal mines are complete. We should yield more coal from the mines now.
Our scouts have come across a group of American survivors. They convince them to join us in the Last City. Like they have any other choice.
We keep running short on food. I have ordered a new outpost be established that can deliver raw fish to the city.
Our guardsmen have found a traitor in our mists. The Order demands justice. He will face it in the prison.
Our scouts have found a group of children living alone in a cave. They will escort them back to the city. In the meantime we will prepare homes for them.
A child has fled the city and her father wishes to go after her. As much as it pains me, I cannot allow him to leave as well. If she has truly left the city, his daughter is already dead.
The winter gets colder and our city suffers for it. We need more fuel and more heat. Thankfully our engineers may have a solution.
We are now producing more coal than we need thanks to our coal thumpers. I order more resource depots built so we can stockpile more coal.
Our Propaganda Center thinks we should destroy the history of the hardships the city has faced up to now. I am inclined to agree. People need to focus on the future.
We are running out of wood. I can build more sawmills around the frozen trees here, but we need a better solution.
Our scouts want to investigate a strange ice crevasse. I don’t know what they will find there, but I agree to let them investigate.
One of our citizens is failing to forget the past. The Order will beat it out of him.
The scouts found more survivors in the ice crevasse. Our city’s population is continuing to grow.
The refugees continue to warn of a storm heading this way. This will be the test. If our city survives then humanity has a chance. If it falls…
If it falls then nothing matters anymore.
Our scouts have found naught but graves. The bodies show signs of cannibalism. I cannot let our city fall to this.
A woman is claiming she has an extra mouth to feed. There can be no exceptions to the rule. Food is short. Some of us may have to go hungry.
Our scouts return with survivors and report that there is another camp that may have survivors. Hopefully they won’t be cannibals by now.
Our people are desperate and stealing from out food stores. I have ordered more guardsmen to protect the storage. We cannot lose track of our food.
Our engineers have developed improvements to our coal thumpers. I order them upgraded immediately. We will need as much coal as we can muster for this coming storm.
The storm is looming closer and we can see the clouds moving in. Many sites are too cold for our scouts to visit now.
Our scouts say there may be more survivors in the Snow Burrows nearby. More survivors means more hands to work the coal mines.
A group of drunks have been spreading rumours of our doom. We cannot risk losing hope anymore. Order must prevail.
Our scouts have found a group of scientists. Perhaps they can help to improve our heat generator.
We have improved our storage facilities. We will need to stockpile a lot of coal to survive the storm.
Our fishing expedition has been destroyed by the storm. It’s getting closer by the day. Food is going to be a problem now.
More survivors have been found in the Snow Burrows. They will return to the city for safety and warmth.
The people want to pray to their gods instead of work. We cannot waste time that could be sent preparing. Faith is nothing compared to Order.
Our scientists have developed stereoscopic lenses and can now measure the storm that approaches. They say we only have a couple of days, and it will last for a week. God help us…
We need all hands to survive this storm. Even the children need to work. Moving around will keep them warmer anyway.
Our scouts attempted to save more survivors at Deep Hollow, but they say the place is frozen by the storm. I order them back to the city.
Our people have started to fight over supplies. Some people don’t trust the heat generator and want fuel for their homes.
The people attack our supplies. Our guardsmen maintain order, but they are demanding wood for their homes. They must trust the heat generator. It’s the only way.
Our engineers have improved the heat generator. We can increase it’s output temporarily without using more fuel. They say it is risky – if we keep it overdriven for too long it could explode.
Our last delivery of coal leaves for the city. We will have to rely on our mines and thumpers from now on.
The father who lost his daughter has committed suicide. I should have let him go. At least he may have found peace.
Everyone is back in the city now. Time to wait out the storm.
Things are getting colder. I order the heat generator put into overdrive.
The storm hits the city. It’s time. Mankind’s final test. We have enough fuel, but food is short and our farms are frozen over. We cannot send out hunters in this storm. We will have to make do with what we have left.
Our people are still cold, even with the heat generator overdriven. Our engineers are working on ways to generate more heat.
The heat generator is reaching dangerous levels of output. Our engineers are monitoring it carefully. We may have to endure the cold for a time.
Our mines are at risk of collapse due to the frozen conditions. Nature really is trying to wipe us off the face of the planet.
Our engineers have improved our heat generator’s output. Our medical facilities are being overworked, but we may yet survive this.
The mines are freezing over. I have sent more workers to help keep them clear. We cannot run out of coal.
Our generator is at full power, but the city is still freezing. The sick and the dying are on the rise.
Even more hands are needed to clear out the mines. It is dangerous. People will die. But at least the rest of us can survive.
Our engineers have improved our generator. We should be able to keep overdrive on for longer now.
45 of our people died saving the mines, but they remain operational. They will be honoured. If we survive this storm, that is.
People are dropping dead in the street. People are panicking. There is little more I can do now. Have I failed them?
We do what we can, and the people are grateful. Will it be enough?
We are out of food. People are hungry and starving. They are freezing, losing their limbs to frostbite. Over 100 of us have died in this storm so far. It’s looking bleak out here.
Our engineers tell us we are close to the end, but the worst is yet to come. We need to brace ourselves if we wish to survive.
People are giving up and refusing to work. I must use force here. Order is the only thing left. It will keep us alive.
I hope.
People are starting to rebel. Our guardsmen will maintain order.
A whole family has frozen to death. They aren’t the only ones, but the people are looking to it as an example.
They are panicking now. I order the guardsmen to force them to work. They may hate me for this, but it is their only chance for survival.
The daughter of the man who killed himself has returned. I should have let him look for her…
Discontent is rising rapidly. I ask them to hold on for a couple more days. I don’t know how much longer I can hold them off.
We aren’t all going to survive the storm. We have to accept this. We have to focus on helping those who are more likely to survive.
Our engineers say the storm is almost over. But we are out of coal. The generator is shutting down. We can’t fail now. We are so close…
The people have finally given up. They are refusing to work anymore. I don’t think I can convince them to help anymore.
The clouds clear away. The sun rises on this day. It is warm. So warm. Has the storm passed? Have we survived?
We have survived the worst of the cold. It is over. Or rather, it has begun. Humanity will survive. But was it worth the cost?
Well I gotta say, that was an extremely fun game to play through. Making the final boss an actual storm is a stroke of genius. You genuinely feel that you are fighting against the elements themselves.
The slow descent into a dictatorship is really well portrayed. You are forced to make choices, difficult choices. As the storm looms closer you realise that you cannot be kind anymore. You have to force people to work. You have to send the children to work. People may be unhappy, but survival is the immediate goal.
There are other scenarios and game modes within this excellent game that I want to play through. But I think, for now, I will move on to the next game in My Steam Library.
